Biden’s VAWA also increases federal funding for battered women’s shelters and rape crisis centers. Biden also proposes new legislation to improve reporting practices and make it easier for victims to report their abuse. His new legislation will also expand funding for rape education programs on college campuses.
The current federal housing programs for survivors of domestic violence are insufficient. Under Biden’s Administration, federal agencies will collaborate to create a comprehensive housing grant program for survivors of domestic violence. This new program will include flexible funding for supportive services, advocacy with landlords, and legal assistance. In addition, it will include additional funding for VAWA’s transitional housing program.
In addition to increasing funding for legal services for victims of domestic violence, Biden’s VAWA will greatly expand the Legal Assistance for Victims Grant Program. It will also support the expansion of the Legal Services Corporation, a nonprofit organization that provides legal services to victims of domestic violence. It will also create a $50 million grant program to hire victim advocates, who are based in local law enforcement systems and community organizations. Additionally, the White House has announced the creation of the Cancer Cabinet. The Cabinet will include senior officials from key government agencies, as well as the Departments of Energy and Defense. The Office of the First Lady will also join the Cancer Cabinet.
President Biden’s Cancer Moonshot is an ambitious initiative aimed at improving cancer care and reducing cancer mortality rates. However, it has yet to receive the funding it needs.
